Q：なぜ哲学のゼミを選んだの？
手島〉まぁ、自分が国際政治の勉強をしてみてしっくりこなかったっていうのが本音。たくさんの学者達が言っていることって、結局みんな同じなような気がして...。理論とかを聞いても、この先どうしたいのかっていうのが見えてこなかった...。それで、哲学系の学問には苦手意識があったんだけど、苦手を克服するためにあえて挑戦してみたかった。哲学の問題提起のように、物事を深く掘り下げて考えたいと思った。
黒田〉僕はもともと哲学をやりたいと思っていた。国際政治経済学部を選んだのは、政治思想をやろうと思ったから。でもいざやってみたら、あまりおもしろく感じられない自分がいた。リアリストとリベラリストとかっていう、その区分けがつまらない。なんだか現実離れしているなあって。あれに分類して何の意味があるのだろうと思ってしまった。で、２年のときに青山スタンダードで哲学の授業をとって、「あ、これだな」と。
Q :いつも難しそうな本を読んでいるけど、本を読むのはもとから好きだったの？
手島〉1~2年の頃は村上春樹にはまっていたね。
黒田〉僕も村上春樹を読んでいたんだよね。それで、図書館で、読んでる本の続きが見つからない、と思うと手島君が借りてたりとかしたしね（笑）
手島〉本の奪い合いだったね。気づいてなかったけど（笑）
村上春樹は、哲学を始めたいと思ったきっかけになったと思う。
まあ厳密にいうと村上春樹も小説は哲学ではないんだけど、ものを考えさせるというか...。なんか深いんだよね。
黒田〉東野圭吾とかも読んだけどやっぱ村上春樹は他の小説や推理小説とは違うおもしろさがあって...。人間が根本的にどうあるべきかっていうテーマがあるようなないような。
Q：ゼミでは何を読んでいるの？
手島〉３年生のときはハイデッガーの「存在と時間」、ニーチェの本。あと「西洋哲学史」を一章ずつ各自が要約してきて、それをゼミ中に発表して、先生が解説する。
黒田〉たまに先生に反論する奴もいたりするね。
でもそこで先生にそれはちがうって言われたら 「はい。」ってなるんだけどね（笑）自分自身の意見のぶつかり合いというよりは解釈だね。「ほんとはニーチェはこう言っているんじゃないか」、てね。
Q：おもしろかった本は？
黒田〉カント。ハイデッガー！！
手島〉いや、全部おもしろいよ。
「西洋哲学史」の本はわかりやすくてオススメ。図書館にあるよ。
Q :ゼミに入って変わったことは？
黒田〉大学に入ってよかったと思った。
手島〉俺は３年生になって全体的に成績がめちゃめちゃあがったよ。ゼミで扱う哲学書はほんと難しいから必死になって読む。そうすると他の本がすらすら読めるようになって、政治系の授業もきちんと理解できた。
黒田〉日頃からものを考えるようになった。
手島〉孤独に慣れた。
一人でいることが多くなったのは、単純に授業が友達とかぶらなくなったってのもあるし、勉強したいし、ものを考えるときには一人になる必要があるから。
黒田〉ハイデッガーも本で、孤独にならないと哲学はできないって言ってるんだよ。
Q :茂先生はどんなお方？
手島〉超不思議だよ。
サッカーが好きで。クリスチャン
子供が一人いる。子供には超優しい。
あ、あと犬が一匹いる。
黒田〉たまに先生の家にご飯を食べに行ったりするんだよね。
先生はすごい優しい。でも優しくて厳しい。
手島〉合宿のときに論文を書いたんだけど、１１枚の一枚目で、「あ、これ違うね」って。スパッと切られたよ。
黒田〉合宿の時は各自で一冊をやったんだよね。通常のゼミでは一冊に何週間もかけてじっくりやっていたのにさ。
手島〉それで俺はプラトンをやって、
黒田〉俺はニーチェをやった。
手島〉ほんとにず～っと図書館にこもって悩みまくって。相当きつかった...。
黒田〉それなのに一言「全然違うよ」ってね...。
Q :大学を卒業したらどうしたい？
手島〉本は読み続けるだろうね。
まだ自分がどうなりたいかはわからないけど、いろいろ学んで成長していくことを続けられればいいと思う。
黒田〉あらゆる欲望を満たそうとするんじゃなくて、少なくとも自分が何を達成したいのかをよく考えたい。それは、つきつめて考えると、奥さんと幸せに暮らしたいってところに行きつく。仕事の時間も楽しく生産的に過ごすことで、家庭の時間も充実させたいと思っている。
Q：就職活動はどうだった？
黒田〉みんなはそれぞれ考え方あるけど、社会は一つだから、折り合いつけていかなきゃいけないなと思った。
どう生きるかを考えなくてはならないんだよね。
手島〉「よく生きる」ことをね。
黒田〉そう考えるとやっぱ就職活動しなきゃなんだよね。働くのやだなって考えたりもしたけど。あんな社会に出て成長したくないってね（笑）
手島〉俺はお金を稼ぎたいっていう気持ちがあったからね。
Q：では最後に一言お願いします。
手島〉本は読んだ方がいいですよ♪
自分について考えた方がいいですよ。
黒田〉大学は勉強するところですよ。
